Identifying a difficult situation:

Watch or have the teacher describe in detail a particularly difficult moment.

What was going on? Why do you think it was difficult?

What was happening just before this incident?

How do you think the environment contributed to the situation? Think about the type and difficult of the activity, the seating arrangement, proximity of other teachers and students, noise level, time of day, etc.

How do you think the child's experiences outside of the classroom contributed to this situation (e.g., relationship with parents, siblings, friends, recent difficult events)?

What happened directly after this situation? How do you think it impacted the rest of the student's day?
